Learning in Year 4

During the Spring term the main topic is Habitats where the children are involved in lots of exciting learning experiences. This involves exploring the school woodland habitat, making food chains and food webs, researching the habitat of a hedgehog and creating a minibeast database. In the Summer term the whole school had a healthy eating week. During the week the children were involved in lots of activities based around being healthy. These included: making fruit smoothies, learning Salsa, baking and designing a healthy meal.
In Literacy the children have spent some time looking at skipping rhymes from the Caribbean. Fist of all we had to understand the features of a skipping rhyme, especially the use of syllables. Finally we were able to write our own British skipping rhymes, we even managed to skip to them! During the end of the Summer term the children study coastal regions, focusing on Scarborough. Towards the end of the term the children enjoy a trip to Scarborough where they look at the sea defence system in place, explore the harbour and RNLI museum, search the rock pools for marine life and enjoy lunch on the beach!
